Decorated train cars and live music will come to various stops in the Capital Region
As the holiday season draws closer, another tradition will be passing through the Capital Region.
The Canadian Pacific's annual Holiday Train is scheduled to make stops in Albany, Saratoga, Washington and Essex Counties on Monday, November 25th and Tuesday, November 26th, bringing decorated train cars and live music to each stop on the path.
Each stop will last approximately 30 minutes, allowing onlookers to take photos of the train and to soak in the experience of the decorated train cars and music from James Barker Band and Clerel performing from one of the train's box cars. In addition, the train will serve as a donation site, collecting non-perishable food to benefit local food pantries.
On Monday, the train will stop in Menands at the Ganser Smith Memorial Park, before departing at 4:30pm to head up the Hudson River to Mechanicville. At 6PM the train will stop at 300 Park Avenue before heading off to Saratoga Springs where live music and holiday cheer will take place at the Saratoga Amtrak Station.
Then on Tuesday, folks in Fort Edward will be treated to the train stopping at the Fort Edward-Glens Falls Amtrak Station at 2:15pm. Then after passing through Washington County, the train will stop at the Port Henry Amtrak Station in Essex County at 5:10pm as it makes its way towards Plattsburgh and the Canadian Border.
Those published times are approximate and subject to change, due to weather and track conditions, as the train travels across rails also used by other freight and passenger trains. In addition, vehicular travelers may see delays near these stations during each extended stop.
The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train is a yearly tradition that stops at hundreds of stations across Canada and the United States, and according to the Holiday Train F.A.Q., is about 1,000 feet long and consists of 14 rail cars decorated with LED lights and holiday designs. CPKC President and CEO Keith Creel says "[t]he Holiday Train unites people in the spirit of the season as it travels across Canada and the United States, while generating critical support for our neighbours in need through the program’s support of local food banks. We are pleased to again send this magical train on a four-week trip across our network spreading holiday joy as we collect food and raise money to fight food insecurity.”
