The Athletic Director will step down after 18 years at Shen to focus on family.
Change is coming to Shenendehowa Athletics.
Athletic Director Chris Culnan is stepping down.
The news was first reported by Rodger Wyland of NewsChannel 13 in November, but was confirmed Tuesday during a board of education meeting.
In a statement, Culnan thanks the Shen administration for the position, and the coaches and athletes during his tenure.
In 18 years with Shenendehowa, Culnan has overseen countless titles and trips to state tournaments in baseball, boys basketball, boys and girls volleyball and field hockey. The campus has played host to Sectional Championships and State Playoff games in multiple sports, and the athletics department has become one of the best in the state under Culnan's leadership.
In 2017, Shenendehowa capped their third straight win in the Kerr Cupp All-Sport Championship, which compiles performance in all state competition to determine an overall winner as seen by the New York State Sportswriters Association.
Culnan says that his time with Shenendehowa has "been an incredible experience." and notes his stepping down is to better focus on family and his health.
His last day will be at the conclusion of the 2024-25 school year, at the end of June. In the meantime, Shenendehowa's administration will begin the search for Culnan's replacement.
