CBS 6 Video

The train was heading to Toronto from NYC

Update 3:30pm: According to the Intercity Rail Map, Amtrak Train 63, the Maple Leaf to Toronto, has transferred all passengers from the train that had collided with the car onto Train 281, the Empire Service to Niagara Falls, New York.  Those seeking updates on the train's late status should search for Amtrak Train 281.

Update 2:41pm: News 10 reports the passenger vehicle was occupied, but there were 'no serious injuries'.

An Amtrak train carrying 133 people struck a car in Palatine Bridge late Friday morning. Amtrak confirmed to CBS 6 that it happened at 11:16am. A vehicle was apparently on the tracks when the train, traveling from New York City to Toronto, struck the car.

Early reports say there were no serious injuries, police and emergency crews are on the scene investigating.

No word on why the car was on the tracks.

Amtrak announces on X that lengthy delays for travelers should be expected as all trains between Amsterdam and Utica are being held during the ongoing investigation and cleanup.

The rail serves Amtrak's Maple Leaf, Lake Shore Limited and Empire Service lines across New York.
