NASA researchers are developing a new solid-state battery pack that could be lighter weight, hold more energy, perform better in stressful environments and don't use any liquids like lithium! This means solid-state batteries wouldn't have the same issues as traditional batteries, including overheating, fire and loss of charge over time. These batteries are primarily being developed for aviation (I mean it's NASA after all) however they could be used in many places current batteries are used, while being safer and potentially more environmentally friendly.
