If you're heading up or down 787, you'll notice Albany's decrepit concrete behemoth is now partially covered. The City of Albany has draped netting on two sides of the Central Warehouse. The netting was installed to keep large pieces of concrete from falling on the railroad tracks that run parallel to the building.
In 2022, the city declared a state of emergency and Amtrak was forced to cancel all trains from the Rensselaer station to Western New York due to concrete debris falling dangerously close to the tracks.
In October, there was talk between the building's new owners, the city of Albany and the county as to whether or not the structure can be rehabilitated or if it should be knocked down. Both options come with a hefty price tag.
